Amaryl M is a combination medication used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. Metformin, a biguanide, decreases hepatic glucose production and enhances insulin sensitivity. Together, they help lower blood glucose levels effectively. This combination is prescribed when monotherapy with either glimepiride or metformin does not achieve adequate glycemic control. . The typical starting dose is one tablet (2 mg glimepiride/500 mg metformin) taken once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Depending on individual glycemic response, the dose may be adjusted, but the maximum daily dose should not exceed 8 mg of glimepiride and 2,000 mg of metformin. Each tablet contains glimepiride 2 mg and metformin 500 mg.
