Aranesp contains darbepoetin alfa, a synthetic form of erythropoietin, which stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. It's indicated for treating anemia due to CKD in patients on dialysis and not on dialysis, and anemia due to concomitant myelosuppressive chemotherapy in patients with non-myeloid malignancies. The 40 mcg prefilled syringe delivers 40 mcg of darbepoetin alfa in 0.4 mL of solution. . Aranesp can be administered via intravenous or subcutaneous injection. The dosage and frequency depend on the patient's condition and hemoglobin levels. For CKD patients on dialysis, the starting dose is typically 0.45 mcg/kg once weekly or 0.75 mcg/kg every two weeks. For CKD patients not on dialysis, it's 0.45 mcg/kg every four weeks. For anemia due to chemotherapy, the recommended starting dose is 2.25 mcg/kg weekly or 500 mcg every three weeks.
