Dilatrend is a medication containing carvedilol, which blocks beta-adrenergic receptors and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. This dual action leads to vasodilation and reduced heart rate, effectively lowering blood pressure and decreasing the workload on the heart. It is commonly prescribed for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure, improving heart function and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events. . The dosage of Dilatrend varies based on the condition being treated: - Hypertension: The recommended starting dose is 12.5 mg once daily for the first two days. Thereafter, the dosage is increased to 25 mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be further increased at intervals of at least two weeks to a maximum of 50 mg daily, taken in single or divided doses. - Heart Failure: Treatment should be initiated under close medical supervision. The starting dose is 3.125 mg twice daily (with food) for two weeks. If tolerated, the dose is then increased to 6.25 mg twice daily, followed by 12.5 mg twice daily, and then 25 mg twice daily, with each dose level maintained for at least two weeks. The maximum recommended dose is 25 mg twice daily in patients weighing less than 85 kg, and 50 mg twice daily in patients weighing more than 85 kg.
