Dostinex is a medication primarily used to manage conditions associated with hyperprolactinemia, including amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, anovulation, and galactorrhea. Elevated prolactin levels can lead to menstrual disturbances and fertility issues in women, as well as symptoms like reduced libido in men. Each tablet contains 0.5 mg of cabergoline, a dopamine receptor agonist that inhibits prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland. Additionally, Dostinex is effective in preventing or suppressing physiological lactation in postpartum women when breastfeeding is not desired or contraindicated. The tablets are white, flat, capsule-shaped, scored, and engraved with "PU" on one side and "700" on the other. . - For inhibition of lactation: Take 1 mg (two 0.5 mg tablets) as a single dose on the first day postpartum. - For suppression of established lactation: Take 0.25 mg (half a tablet) every 12 hours for two days (total of 1 mg). - For hyperprolactinemic disorders: Start with 0.5 mg per week, administered in one or two doses (e.g., half a tablet twice a week). The weekly dose may be increased by 0.5 mg at monthly intervals until the desired response is achieved. The typical therapeutic dose ranges from 0.25 mg to 2 mg per week.
