Ebixa 10 mg tablets contain memantine hydrochloride, a medication prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. Memantine works by blocking NMDA receptors in the brain, which are involved in the transmission of nerve signals important for learning and memory. By modulating the effects of elevated levels of glutamate, memantine helps to reduce neuronal dysfunction. The recommended starting dose is 5 mg per day, which is increased in 5 mg increments over three weeks to reach the maintenance dose of 20 mg per day. Specifically: Week 1: 5 mg once daily; Week 2: 10 mg once daily; Week 3: 15 mg once daily; Week 4 and onwards: 20 mg once daily.
